My class blog is Edmodo, a password protected site. Students were given the enrollment code at the beginning of the semester. Parents, ask your students to sign in, and you can get a parent code to join the blog as well. Edmodo is where I post what we are doing in class each day as well as any relevant links and files.
Summer Reading:
Your summer reading assignment includes a novel and a play: A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini and The Piano Lesson by August Wilson. I hope you enjoy these diverse texts. As you read, annotate and/or take notes. Summer reading is an important component of this class. We begin our semester with discussion of these texts, and you will be tested on both the first week of school. Before you start reading and annotating, I strongly suggest reading "How to Mark a Book" by Mortimer Adler. Also, before reading A Thousand Splendid Suns, you might want to view the following video on the rise of the Taliban and the history of conflict in Afghanistan. It really helps to put the novel's events into perspective.
